Expert Electrical was appointed by Eyre Shellfish Corporation & Shellfish Culture Tasmania
as the solar Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor to deliver the
159KW grid connected solar PV system for the new Oyster Hatchery in Cowell.

This custom engineered solar power system has 590 Phono Solar 270W and six German made three phase SMA TriPower inverters. It covers approximately 973 squared metres of roof space. Expert Electrical’s engineering team worked very closely with the builder, project manager and other contractors to design and install the microgrid system. The system was tied in with two Cummins 320kw diesel generators and strict design limitations were in place for the network protection relays.

After the disaster of the Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome in Tasmanian oysters, the South
Australian state government banned all spat from being imported from Tasmania. For the oyster growers of SA this was the start of a drought and the crippling of an industry.
Completed in early 2018 the Eyre Shellfish hatchery facility is now capable of producing about
200 million oyster spat per year.
